PN G75.5+1.7 - Soap Bubble Nebula

PN G75.5+1.7 - Soap Bubble Nebula

The Soap Bubble Nebula, or PN G75.5+1.7, is a planetary nebula in the constellation Cygnus. When the central star was in the red giant phase of its life cycle, stellar winds blew off a shell of gas which is now glowing from ultraviolet radiation. This one just happens to have the shell of gas in a near perfect sphere. It was discovered and imaged in 2007 by amateur astronomer Dave Jurasevich using an 160 mm refractor telescope.
