IC 1871 - Embryo Nebula
Sculpted by the intense winds and radiation of the region's massive young stars, emission nebula IC 1871 is part of the larger Soul Nebula (IC 1848). Dark dust clouds are outlined by the excited hydrogen gas. The region is also home to numerous Bok globules. At an estimated distance of 6,500 light-years from Earth, this star-forming complex lies within the Perseus spiral arm of our Milky Way Galaxy in the constellation Cassiopeia.
